Benefits of Plevna Merinos

Visual Classing
Visual classing is still used to start the selection process within our stud and flock breeding operation. This is essential when using objective measurement as some sheep look great on paper but unfortunately have structural faults that can't be measured.

Ian Lilburne of Hay now conducts our visual classing taking over from Frank Donnelly (retired in 2009). Ian's philosophy is to breed a sheep suited to the environment it lives in, focusing on an easy care, plainer sheep with better fertility and carcase traits. Ian maintains plainer sheep have longer wool which maintains high fleece weights. It is essential in our view to have an independent classer to keep your flock heading in the right direction.

Boyd Aveyard offers complimentary classing to all Plevna ram clients.
